Nasser Al-Attiyah FIA Middle East Rally Champion 2007
Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah won Dubai International Rally and claimed the FIA Middle East Rally Championship title after his dramatic battle with the UAE’s Sheikh Khalid Al Qassimi.
After 11 of the 14 scheduled special stages, with Al-Attiyah leading Qassimi by 36 seconds, the event was stopped because of dangerous circumstances caused by spectator vehicles and public traffic straying onto the rally route.
Al-Attiyah said: “I’m very disappointed that it had to finish like this, but I’m happy to win the rally and the championship”.
Announcing the decision to halt the rally, Mohammed bin Sulayem, President of the Automobile and Touring Club, the rally organisers, said: “It’s unfortunate that the rally has to end this way but we have taken the decision in the interests of safety for competitors and spectators.”
Before the rally ended prematurely, Dubai had been witnessing one of the closest finishes in the 24-year history of the Middle East Championship as Nasser and Sheikh Khalid fought out a spectacular battle for the regional title.
The final championship standings showed the two arch rivals had finished in a dead heat with 60 points each, but Nasser Al-Attiyah took the title because of his six rally wins this season compared with Sheikh Khalid’s two.

Rally Ireland 2007
Belfast, Ireland : After a five month break from WRC the defending P-WRC Champion Nasser Al-Attiyah and his co-driver Chris Pattersson really enjoyed Rally Ireland 2007. A brilliant and steady driving throughout the event rewarded Nasser Al-Attiyah with a podium finish and six points.
Nasser Al-Attiyah had no testing in Ireland prior to the event start, but taking maximum points for the Middle East Championship on the Rally of Lebanon last week was clearly good tarmac practice for him.
On the first day Nasser Al Attiyah had a cautious driving, and ended the leg in fifth place. "There´s a lot of mud on the roads, I've never seen anything like it. You can get a good rhythm at various times, but we're just aiming to improve as we go along. Our target is to have a good race, learning along the way."
Throughout the second day Nasser Al-Attiyah has been building up his experience and moved into fourth place. "It's been much better today. We've run faster in these conditions, although it's still very slippery. I'm happy to be fourth, and am looking forward to tomorrow."
Nasser Al-Attiyah followed up his first two days with a really solid drive on the last day. And make no mistake, Nasser was learning. His times were coming down all the time. He picked up the pace on the final stage, setting the third quickest time to finish comfortably in third place.
“I’m so happy with third place. It was very difficult but I’ve enjoyed it a lot and I’d love to come again. I’m not really used tarmac but I’m really happy with our performance here.”

UAE Desert Challenge 2007
Dubai, United Arab Emirates:The AlgoDyne Green Power Racing Team with Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and Swedish co-driver Tina Thörner endured a disappointing end to a fantastic week's driving.
On the last stages of the UAE Desert Challenge, Nasser was out of the running to win the event outright and he produced a brilliant display but electrical problems cost the crew a potentially hardearned second place. 35km from the finish, Al-Attiyah lost over 10 minutes with electrical problems and ruined his chance of taking second overall. Bad luck turned even worse when the car stopped again 20Km from the finish with electrical trouble.
Nasser Al-Attiyah missed out on becoming the second Qatari to win the UAE Desert Challenge since it was introduced to the FIA World Cup in 1993 – The first Qatari was Saeed Al-Hajri who won in 1993.
“What a disappointing finish to a very positive week,” said team director Sven Quandt. Nasser was driving so well and looked set for a great finish, but then he had electrical problems near the end of the stage. The car would start and then stop again. This is something we obviously need to address in the coming days, but it has spoiled a very good result.”
The X-raid team will now take away vital data from this important event in the UAE and put it to good use in final preparations for the Dakar Rally, which starts in Lisbon on Saturday, January 5th and finishes in Dakar on Sunday, January, 20th.

Guy Hoquet Rally of Morocco 2007
Ouarzazate, Morocco : The AlgoDyne Green Power Racing Team duo of Qatar's
Nasser Saleh Al-Attiyah and French co-driver Alain Guehennec finished third
overall in the 2007 Guy Hoquet Rally of Morocco at the wheel of their
X-Raid BMW X3CC on Sunday.
"I was not going to push today," said Al-Attiyah. "I just wanted to stay ahead of Carlos Sousa and keep third place. But then we had a puncture early in the stage and that meant I had to keep up a faster pace. Then we had a flat tire again, but managed to hold on to our position at the end."
"It was a good day for the team and I am delighted with the way everyone performed on the final stage. Nasser again drove a good race. He had two punctures again today, but he was quicker than anyone in between and this proves that we have the pace from the car when we have the reliability with the tires.” said X-Raid team director Sven Quandt.

Rally Greece 2007
GREECE: Defending P-WRC champion Nasser Al-Attiyah was hoping to win Rally Greece 2007 but things didn't go as he wished. Bad luck began on SS6 when Nasser dropped two and a half minutes due to a puncture. The second leg started better but completely worn out tires, a broken track control arm and a fuel pump issue on SS 14 and SS15 made progress in the later part of the day very difficult.
However, on leg three Nasser stayed out of trouble and finished on fifth place, taking four points in the P-WRC championship.

Uddeholm Swedish Rally 2007
KARLSTAD, SWEDEN: Defending P-WRC champion Nasser Al-Attiyah, with co-driver Chris Pattersson, finished seventh in the group N at the swedish rally 2007. The Qatar rallystar who recently finished sixth at the Dakar-rally had to quickly set his mind to -20 degrees celcius and some very slippery stages in the southwest of Sweden.
Nasser who has made one appearance in the Swedish rally before (2004 - 17th place) had some troubles at the beginning of the rally. – Snow and sand behaves very differently. You have to use the brakes with alot of precision on snow. It's a technique that takes some time to learn.
The Qatar driver lost alot of time on the early stages of the rally to make great improvements later on. From loosing up to a minute on the early stages Nasser, in his Subaru STI, only lost two seconds compared to the leader at the 17th stage. – Of course I got a disadvantage to the drivers that are used to compete on snow. But this was a very good experience for me, I learned alot during these days.
Unluckily the rally ended at the 18th stage when Nasser hit a car that crashed earlier during the day. The wing of the car just clipped the stranded car and Nasser and Pattersson could just watch as they crashed into the ditch. And then the rally was over with two stages to go.
A time penalty stopped Al-Attiyah from finishing top five and the Qatar-driver had to settle for seventh place. After a late disqualification of Finlands Juho Hänninen home driver Oscar Svedlund from Sweden took the first victory of the P-WRC 2007.
Despite the crash at the 18th stage Nasser was pleased with the results and his two world championship points at the Swedish rally. – I'll definitly come to Sweden again. It's a fantastic rally with some beautiful surroundings and a great crowd. Even though it's so cold there are alot of people watching, Nasser said. He also enjoyed training with norwegian rally legend Jon Haglund a week before the rally. With Haglund Nasser got a thrilling new experience when he got to drive on a frozen lake.
There's a famous song in Sweden called "king of sand". A song title that fits Nasser Al-Attiyah. On snow however, he has some distance to go before he can call himself "king of snow". But Nassers continous improvements from stage to stage at the Swedish rally shows that the Qatar-driver has the versatility and talent that is needed to defend his P-WRC championship title. And not the least, to advance to the WRC.
But for now the P-WRC has Nasser Al-Attiyah’s full focus where he next aims for rally Corona in Mexico the 9-11th of March.

Nasser Al-Attiyah P-WRC Champion 2006
AUCKLAND: It is now final – Nasser Al-Attiyah, along with British co-driver Chris Patterson, wins the Production Car WRC 2006, without even having to complete the Propecia Rally New Zealand. After a conrod breakdown on SS 13 making it impossible to complete the stage and the rally, Nasser and the rest of the team had to sit on the sidelines awaiting the final result.
"We had a very strange day today as we stopped with problems and then we just had to sit and watch. Our plan was to score good points and to finish so it really didn't go according to plan. But Natahara had prooblems too. I feel sorry for Natahara, he is a good driver with a nice approach, and we have had a good fight this year. But this was the third year of my three year plan and we achieved our goal – to become P-WRC Champions," says Nasser Al-Attiyah.
